RELEASE // mur018

murmur hit us with their latest release, which exhibits the impressive production skills of Marc Ashken on 'Don Do Dat EP' and manifests a promising relationship with the label.
Marc has been busy preparing to launch his record label, New Shoes, amidst working on projects with Hot Waves, Lokee and Save You Records. His next release, the 'Don Do Dat EP' (said in a thick Italian accent) comes on London based murmur records. The EP fits perfectly in the string of deep driving house and tech-house releases that are being delivered by murmur records, which was born in 2008 with Geddes as creator. The EP is nothing short of being dance floor perfect, make you move, solid grooves. murmur records are proud to cast Marc's EP with this as his first release on the label.
The curiously named 'Sir Ashkenson & The Fabulous Teti' bring the Aside, immediately setting the tone of the EP with a rolling, groovy bassline. The simple yet hugely effective vocal creeps through the driving claps and creates a swing, which will undoubtedly be a highlight on the dance floor. Unexpectedly a pitched down, accent hinted, dark voice dominates the breakdown with 'the only piece of advice I can give you is don't leave home without your boyfriend'.
The first track on the B-side is a remix from US producer Anonym and follows the dancefloor vibe of the EP. This is certainly a track for later in the night with a rolling, druggy and dubby feel. The breakdown is engulfed in warping sounds sure to induce a menacing feel.
The last track on the EP bounces and shuffles with tribal sounding drums underlying the bass. In an alluring manner, the track develops with electronic serrated sounds, which are contrasted with melodic chiming rifts.
MarcAshken has a list of projects lined up which look to be an eminent success and this collaboration with murmur sets a remarkable precedent for what is to follow. Hopefully we will see more from this infusion of artist and label in the future.
