RELEASE // mur003

The third release on the murmur imprint supports another rising star from our UK base.
Bearweasel have proved in their handful of productions to be one of the most refreshing production acts around. The Orpington EP further exposes their versatility, reaching into the depths of their influences and delivering two contemporary cuts paired with an inspired remix from Dubshape.
The EPs opener 'Pillow Head' is a track as mellow and warm as its namesake, drenched in supple beats and tingling sound. Wander Down steps up the game, weaving deep atmosphere through its layers of loops and grooves. The Dubshape remix adds menace to the track, laced with foghorns and rolling melodies, the results of each cut are diverse and uniquely appealing. Dubshape, aka Ale Reis and Joao Lee, are residents at two of the world's best nightspots, Warung and D-Edge in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a place where they gather influence from the surrounding burgeoning scene and have built a dynamic sound.
Bearweasel are Dean Muhsin and Louisa Page, from the North and South of England respectively. A chance meeting in 2007 led to an understanding of a shared love of dub-infused house, intricate percussion and strangely, wildfowl. Previous productions on Audiofly's Supernature label and the UK's Tsuba imprint have seen support from a vast array of DJs from 2000 And One through to Akufen and Peace Division. Not content with making one style or sound within house music, the duo intend on displaying every facet of the rich genre in their productions.
Muhsin, a DJ for almost 15 years has held residencies at Sheffield clubbing institutions The Plug and Urban Gorilla, had previous roles as A&R for the Adrift and Kingsize record labels (home to Chicken Lips and Phil Kieran) and currently heads up Dispersion pr and co-runs the Hairy Claw label. Page also treads the music pr day-job path but its after the lights go out that the Bearweasel story really begins.
Citing influences ranging from Kraftwerk through to Basic Channel via Talking Heads and house pioneers like Mood II Swing, it's easy to see why pigeon-holing Bearweasel would be a problem. Their tracks fuse deep house, jazz samples, live percussion and contemporary production to create quite individual sounds.
